Yoga Classes

Rest and Restore Flow
Monday 6.15pm-7.15pm
Tang Hall Explore Library

Rest and Restore is a gentle, somatic yoga class and a good place to start if you are new to yoga, returning after a long break, or simply needing something quieter. The class moves slowly and uses plenty of support, blankets, bolsters and breath, to help the body settle and the nervous system soften.

Much of what happens here draws on embodied yoga and somatic movement.

Embodied yoga is yoga that pays attention to how a pose feels from the inside, rather than how it looks from the outside. Somatic movement works with the felt sense of the body, the subtle signals of tension, ease, weight and breath that we often stop noticing in a busy life. Together they offer a way back into the body that feels safe, unhurried and genuinely restful.

This kind of practice has a real effect on the nervous system. When the body feels safe and supported, the breath begins to slow, the muscles begin to release, and the mind follows. For many people, this is the first time in a long time that they have simply stopped.

You do not need any previous experience of yoga to join this class. You do not need to be flexible or physically confident. Many people who come have never tried yoga before. What they tend to share is an appreciation for a space that does not ask them to perform, push or achieve anything at all.

Strength and Stability Flow
Monday 7.30pm-8.30pm
Tang Hall Explore Library

Strength and Stability is a vinyasa rooted yoga class with a different quality to it. This class is best suited to people who have already spent a little time on the mat and have a feel for the foundational movements of yoga. If you are comfortable with sun salutations and warrior poses and are ready to build on those foundations with more strength and intention, this is likely to be a good fit.

This is what makes it embodied movement rather than just exercise. The attention is always on the felt sense of what the body is doing, how the deep muscles of the core, the shoulders, the hips and the legs are working together, what stability actually feels like from the inside, and how that physical steadiness begins to settle the nervous system too.

The sequences are dynamic and build genuine physical strength, the pace allows time to understand what each movement is actually for, rather than just moving through shapes. And the pauses in between the more dynamic sequences are not rest for the sake of it. They are part of the practice, a chance to notice, to breathe, and to carry that awareness into what comes next.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Tuesday 6.35pm-7.35pm
Tang Hall Explore Library

This is a flowing, breath led vinyasa yoga class that changes week to week depending on what feels most needed.

Some weeks the practice is quieter and more inward, closer in feeling to Rest and Restore, with slower transitions, longer holds and more time to settle into the body. Other weeks it is more dynamic, building heat and strength through vinyasa sequences in a way that feels active without tipping into the more advanced territory of the Strength and Stability class. Often it sits somewhere in between.

This class suits people who are new to yoga and fairly comfortable in their body, and who are ready to explore movement in a way that is both physical and inward. If you are living with more complex physical needs, Rest and Restore is likely to be a gentler starting point.

Morning Intensive Retreat

Monday 27th - Friday 31st July

Five mornings of yoga in the open air, to begin your day with intention.

Each session weaves together vinyasa flow, embodied yoga and somatic movement, paying attention to what the body is actually feeling rather than how it looks or what it can achieve. The practice builds gently across the five mornings so that each day feels like a natural continuation of the one before.

No previous experience is needed. You do not need to be flexible, strong or particularly practised. All you need is a yoga mat and a blanket.

There is something genuinely different about beginning the day this way. Being outside, in your body and your breath, before the rest of life begins, changes the quality of everything that follows. Even one morning of it is worth something.

You are welcome to come for a single drop in session or to book all five mornings. If you are the kind of person who finds it easier to show up when you have already committed, it is worth booking the full five days. There is a financial incentive to do so, and there is something about having paid for the whole thing that makes the early alarm a little easier to get up for.
